ABOUT US

First Visit

Our dental office is committed to providing you and your family with safe, gentle, high-quality dental care. We understand that some of you or even your child may sometimes feel anxiety before going to the dentist. At Parliament Hill Dental, we are sensitive to your needs and our goal is to put your mind at ease while providing you with the best care possible.

Your first visit is a matter of comfort, professionalism and health.

When you visit us for the first time, we will take the time to review your dental and medical history, talk with you to learn more about your dental and overall health, and offer to take x-rays of your teeth and mouth to make sure we don't miss any hard-to-reach areas. Our dentists will then meet with you to discuss your x-rays, create your personalized treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.

Finally, one of our hygienists will clean your teeth and gums and inspect your teeth and gums for cavities or warning signs of tooth decay or gingivitis. If a patient is pregnant, we make sure to prevent any dangerous exposure of the baby with a lead apron or simply by postponing the x-ray examination.

Don't forget to bring these important documents to your first appointment with us!

  • The completed patient information form.
  • Your insurance card.
  • Any other information that could help us give you better oral health.
Oral Care For Children

For Parents

In preparation for your visit, and especially for the first time, don't give your child too many details, as this tends to raise more questions and may contribute to their anxiety.

Keep a positive attitude when explaining your upcoming visit and avoid saying things like "the doctor will just look" or "it won't hurt" because if your child needs treatment, he or she will have an unpleasant experience and may lose confidence in you and the dentist.

AFTER AN OPERATION

Post-operation Instructions

Some tips to help you reduce pain, speed your recovery and prevent postoperative complications.

Bite lightly on cotton pads placed in the mouth, maintaining constant pressure for about 30 to 45 minutes. If you notice after removing the pads that the bleeding persists, put on another one (or even a wet, twisted tea bag) and bite down for another 45 minutes.

  • Do not smoke for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
  • Swelling and localized inflammation are common after surgery. To prevent or reduce swelling, it is recommended to apply ice cubes placed in a wet towel as soon as possible after surgery. The application of cold compresses should not last more than fifteen minutes per hour, and only for the first 24 hours.
  • It is possible that the movements of the jaw are more or less painful after the operation. In some cases, this sensitivity may last for 7 to 10 days. In this situation, avoid forcing your muscles and do not hesitate to modify your diet accordingly: soft and cold foods the first day and increasingly firm foods the following days.
  • After 24 hours, if the bleeding has subsided, brush your teeth normally, taking care not to irritate the healing area. If pain or bleeding persists beyond 24 hours, call us directly.
